The state of Georgia announced that Virgil Presnell Jr. is scheduled to be executed on Tuesday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. If carried out, this will be the first execution in Georgia since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Mr. Presnell was convicted in 1976 and has remained on Death Row for the last 45 years.
We pray for Mr. Presnell and his family, as well as for his victims and their families.
UPDATE: A stay has been issued, though the State of Georgia is appealing it. In person vigils have been canceled in Atlanta, Macon and Jackson. However, GFADP and Death Penalty Action are co-hosting a virtual vigil at 6:00 p.m.
